Your credit cards deserve as much attention as your other financial tools. Make it a point to review your credit cards at least once a year to make sure they are giving you the advantages you need.
Check and Compare Interest Rates
If you have several credit cards, review the interest rates of each one. Some introductory interest rates are great, but the interest rates after the introductory period is over might be higher than you want to pay. For higher interest credit cards, call the credit card companies to see if they can offer you a lower interest rate. If they can’t, you might want to consider closing the account or transferring the balance to an existing card with a lower interest rate.
Look for Additional Fees and Charges
If you’re like most credit card holders, your notices from credit card companies go unread or are glanced at briefly and then tossed aside. Review your statements regularly to make sure there are no fees and charges that have suddenly appeared. These may be a result of mistakes in the billing process, but it’s also possible that you missed notification of a change in your account.
