Had a Problem Shopping Online or On eBay?

Question: I purchased something online with my credit card and never received the item or the item was faulty or not as described. What can I do?

Answer: In many cases, with online purchases you are directed to try and resolve the dispute with the seller directly. With many collective online stores and auction sites, if the situation isn’t taken care of this way, then a formal dispute can be filed after a certain period of time. If you bought the item from an independent e-business, then they are the only ones you have to work with- there is no higher authority to resolve the dispute. Make sure to save copies of any receipts, invoices and emails you have received concerning the order, as they will have valuable information that the seller can use to track the purchase.

If the seller will not resolve the situation to your satisfaction, there is little you can directly do. However, you can respond by putting out negative comments and feedback, either on message boards, or even with the Better Business Bureau and other business organizations. Most web sites that provide goods or services also provide rating systems for sellers. This can not only help the company to mend its ways, but can protect other consumers who read your posts.
