History of HSBC
HSBC Holdings PLC was formed from The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. After Hong Kong became a British colony in 1865, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation was founded to provide financing for trade between Europe and China. In 1990, HSBC Holdings PLC was organised as the parent company of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Since then, HSBC has acquired many financial institutions around the world and by 2007 was the most profitable bank in the world. In this same year, Money Magazine named HSBC “The Money Minder of the Year,” an award reserved for financial institutions that deliver the best return on their accounts. The Banker magazine recognised HSBC in 2008 as the most valuable banking brand in the world.
