History of Commonwealth Bank
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia, also known as Commbank, has over 7,500,000 customers and is the largest bank in Australia today. It began operations in1912 after being founded in 1911 following the passage of the Commonwealth Bank Act. During the 1960’s and 1980’s, Commonwealth Bank diversified its services and began offering products such as insurance and international banking. Offices for this financial institution expand beyond Australia, with locations in New Zealand, Asia, Fiji, the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2007, The Commonwealth Bank earned the title of “Australia’s Most Convenient Bank.”

Services and Features of Commonwealth Bank Everyday and Savings Accounts
Commonwealth Bank of Australia offers five everyday accounts and eight savings accounts. Everyday accounts are available to customers as young as sixteen years old. Customers can choose from a variety of features, including unlimited transactions, low monthly maintenance fees, online and over the phone account management, and ATM privileges. Savings accounts are available with varying interest rates, bonus interest features, and with the needs of investors and home buyers in mind.

MasterCard Credit Cards
Customers can apply for one of seven MasterCard credit cards from Commonwealth Bank. These credit cards have varying interest rates and annual fees. Introductory low interest rates are available for several of the credit cards for balance transfers. A special MasterCard for students and a Gold and Platinum card are a few of the choices.

Home Loans
Commonwealth Bank offers the only Sixty Minute Home Loan in Australia. After completing the necessary paperwork, customers meeting certain requirements can apply for a home loan at one of the branches or over the phone and receive approval in one hour. Customers can also get pre-approved home loans and take up to one year to make a decision on their home purchase.

Personal Loans
Commonwealth Bank customers can secure fixed rate or variable rate personal loans for amounts up to $50,000. Loan terms are from one to seven years. If a personal loan is approved by noon, Monday through Friday, the customer will have access to the loan funds that same day. Commonwealth Bank offers financing for personal and business vehicles.

Insurance Policies
Commonwealth Bank provides insurance policies for all aspects of a customer’s life. Policies that cover personal property include car and home insurance policies. Home insurance policies that cover contents within the home are available. Customers can protect themselves and their families with loan protection insurance and credit card insurance. Monthly payments are guaranteed in the event of the insured’s death or in cases of a disabling illness or accident. Life and travel insurance policies are also available.
