Years ago when my husband and I found ourselves in the middle of our self-made financial storm, it seemed like we were the only ones that were struggling with money. That wasn’t true, of course. I’m sure there were plenty of other people that had mismanaged their money and ended up in a bad financial situation. At that time, though, not many people talked about their personal financial disasters.
One positive thing I’ve seen grow from the recent worldwide recession is that nearly everyone is realising that they need to be more careful with their money. It’s much easier to make the decision to be frugal when everyone else is doing the same thing. And it’s not humiliating to admit that you’re battling with your budget because there are many people that can empathise with you.
Since there are so many of us that are trying to find ways to save money, there are many articles and other sources of information about frugality just waiting for us if we look for them. Saving money hasn’t been this popular since the Great Depression. We have the advantage of being able to find pointers and advice about leading the frugal life in a multitude of places.
Look in your local library for books about personal finance and living the simple life. You’ll find some great ideas and might even be inspired to come up with your own cost saving schemes. Many newspapers and magazines are featuring articles to help readers cut costs and survive these tough financial times. The Internet can be a great source of information, too.
Even if you haven’t been hit in the wallet during the past year, you’ll want to read up on how to save money and live within your budget. We can all use a refresher course on reigning in our expenses every now and then. And this is a great time to find everything you ever wanted to know about being frugal.
My suggestion to you:
Take advantage of the wealth of information about personal finance and frugality available today. There is an abundance of information and advice available to you, so don’t try to get through your difficult financial times all by yourself.
