Home » FAQ » What kinds of rewards can I get from a credit card?
There are many sorts of rewards available through credit cards. Some cards will offer a simple cash back incentive on your purchases, while many others convey a specific targeted benefit, such as frequent flier miles or points towards gift certificates. Here are some of the most common rewards:
Cash back: These cards offer a small percentage of cash back for purchases made from approved retailers. In many cases, there is a sliding scale of affiliates, so that you can earn a higher percentage with purchases at certain retailers.
Airline miles: These provide frequent flier miles that can be redeemed for air travel. These cards usually give one mile for each dollar spent, and many programs provide bonus miles for purchases made at preferred retailers. Several of these cards will also provide a substantial bonus for signing up, sometimes as much as 15 or 20 thousand miles.
Points: Point-based cards allow you to redeem your rewards in the form of gift certificates, special offers, and travel. The system is very similar to airline miles, and the most common ratio is 1 point per dollar, with bonus points being earned through purchases with approved retailers.
Gas rebates: These cards specifically offer rebates on fuel purchases, usually in the form of a small percentage discount on the purchase. These types of rewards can often be found in a points-based package that includes travel perks and other benefits.
Cash back cards with sliding scales will often provide a specific fuel rebate as well.
