Will I qualify for a gold or platinum credit card?

Gold and Platinum cards are designed for high-end consumers with good credit. They tend to have higher available balances, provide some sort of reward, and usually charge an annual fee. As one might expect, the platinum cards cost more in fees than a gold card, although there is not much difference in the spending limits between the grades.

Qualifying for these cards depends largely on credit history and income level. Since these types of cards represent higher potential debt, they are only given out if the bank is confident that the owner of the card will be able to make at least the minimum payments each month. Also, if you have a poor history of paying back debt, then the bank will be leery of giving you a card with a high spending limit.
