Is it risky to use my credit card to make online purchases?

There is a certain risk associated with making purchases on the web. Most of the fears are linked with identity theft, and the ramifications of someone else getting a hold of your credit card information. These risks are ameliorated to a great extent by dealing with established and reputable companies, and avoiding any questionable sites that cannot provide some proof of themselves as a legitimate business. Most reputable sites and major companies will host their purchasing on a secured server, which minimizes the risk that your account number will fall into the wrong hands.

If you have any misgivings about a site or company, it is a good idea to do a little web research on the outfit before trusting them with your personal data. While the Internet is awash in many scams, and new ones are being created all the time, they are quite often reported to watchdog agencies and online communities as rip-offs. If you can find any negative reviews or warnings associated with the site, then you might want to take your business elsewhere.
