What is the difference between a charge card and a credit card?

The difference between a charge card and a credit card is the amount of time before the full balance must be paid. While a credit card will allow you to make partial payments, and charge you interest on the balance of your account, a charge card requires you to pay the balance in full each month.

A charge card can be advantageous over a regular credit card by saving you on interest costs. While you have to pay the balance in full, there is no interest charged for the purchases, so you can avoid the recurring interest penalties that accrue on a regular credit balance. The disadvantage is that you have no ability to make purchases that you can pay off incrementally.
